The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
