Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
An important representative said the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
